Bulls have them
...and so do our cars; horns!
05/04/2007

F or several automobile drivers who sit on their ‘horns’ rather than on their driving seats, their impatience while driving might lead to immense problems for others. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee data has revealed that three wheelers, trucks and motorcycles remain the chief sources of noise pollution in Delhi; 12 out of 46 locations that were surveyed remain ‘noisy’ round the clock. Commercial and traffic congested areas in Chandni Chowk remain extremely noisy with noise levels touching almost the 100 decibel mark (much higher than the normal 50-70 decibel). WHO data shows that Tokyo, Nagasaki and New York are the noisiest cities in the world; Indian cities also are not far behind.

Researchers and psychologists have contended that such high levels of noise cause several health problems that include hearing loss, irritability, depression, as also heart ailment. Framing laws without proper implementation and almost non-existent civic sense definitely lie among the causes. We can’t do anything about the ones that the bulls have, can we start by cutting down on ours?
