Land of Germans
Hitler died but his legacy remains
15/05/2008

Turkish PM Ergogan found that Turks in Germany are in deathtrap during his recent visit. In Ludwigshafen (during Hate crime fire) nine people were killed wherein five of them are children. Keeping the xenophobic backfire in mind, when Erdogan took stand in favour of Turks, Germans accused him of fomenting Turkish nationalism in their land.

The strange history of 2.6 million Turks in Germany has reminded pogrom involving 5 million Jews. When Turks have shown enormous contributions in German’s economy powering industries, populating cities and producing millionaires, politicians and businessmen, it disgruntled them, and are frightened to lose land and identity. Situations turned worse in 2001, when the PISA test of science and math proved that Turks children are backward, incapable of adopting German language and education. Migrants became Muslims in Germans’ eyes after the 9/11 and hence a threat to peace. With slow industrial growth, shrinking population, dearth of skilled labour-force, liberal attitude towards migrants could have greater outcomes. Unfortunately, Even six decades after Hitler’s legacy and acceptance of Europeanisation, Germans are neither ready to forget Germanness nor let Turks forget where they are from.
