Interesting dimensions waiting to emerge in Americas...
As Fidel Castro recuperates, debates rage on the nature of future challenge to American hegemony. Monroe doctrine that epitomised the lasting influence of US in Americas had a chink with communist revolution under Fidel. While that did not lead to dominoes effect elsewhere, but Fidel’s regime remained as a thorn in the flesh of Americans. Having survived the Soviet collapse critics that argued his demise long back now hypothesise about the possible transition of the Cuban society post-Fidel.
While on one hand it could be quicker Chinese-style reforms without loosening of the political control, on the other it could engage in a higher integration of Anti-US forces in the region. The challenge might not come as a military confrontation, but as the US continues funding its Commission For Assistance To Free Cuba with $80 million for regime change in ‘non-violent’ way, there is bound to be renewed attempts to meddle in Cuba. It might be the clash between unequal as of now, but things can flare up once strong anti-American lobby emerges in different countries of Latin America post-Fidel.
