AIR FORCE, OR BARE FORCE?
If there's a war tomorrow, is the IAF prepared for it? Sigh...

TWhen will I get something like this to fly? he future: Phalcon AWACS, 125 Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA), 190 Sukhois... IAF continues the legacy of being the fourth largest air force in the world (applause...). The moot question is: What about today? It isn't just the MiG 21s, but the entire MiG family (21,23, 27 and 29), and even Jaguars at times, that are suffering obsolescence issues, leaving India's air security dependent only on 52 Sukhois & 40-odd Mirage fighters. All this at a time when China is producing the JF-17 fighters (with Pakistan) and Sukhois in hundreds. In fact, even Pakistan has already received the latest consignment of F-16s from the US. Worse, our Light Combat Aircraft program is still at a nascent stage & the first MRCA would not come before 2012. Are we assuming there cannot be a war now? India thought the same in 1962, 1965 & 1999. The rest is history, from which we never learn, sigh...
